North East of England

When this section started out there was little available about the family trees in these areas - despite their significant number of recorded Townsley births and marriages. Now, as a result of better access to information and the efforts of family historians, some significant family trees have been built up. As each tree becomes clearer it gets a little easier to fit the remaining pieces into the puzzle.

The main provisional trees start from Joseph Townsley (b ~1816) and James Townsley (b 1810-1817) together with the recent addition of Thomas Townsley (b ~1804). It is thought that Joseph, James and now Thomas could either be brothers or close relatives who arrived / returned from Ireland in the 1840's. But here are also some other small family trees that could turn out to be connected.

The separate provisional trees for Thomas Townsley (b 1830), Robert Wilkinson Townsley (b 1859) and William Townsley (b1858) are thought to be unrelated to those of Joseph and James; with these families all coming from Yorkshire.

Details of these, and all the other, Townsley family trees are online here ....
