This web site has been arranged around various groups of family trees that have been assembled over many years. When started there was little in the way of accurate genealogy records online and most early material was collected from libraries. Now the Internet provides access to vast amounts of higher quality reference sources - but it still needs direct family knowledge to solve some of the puzzles ...

So please consider all of these trees as a best guess based on the available information ...

The first group is made up of small, specific Townsley family trees arranged by UK regions - for details see Locations.

The second group are wider family history databases which together cover all the families I have research over many years. It is arranged as two separate databases

Database 1 covers all the Townsley families plus all the other “commoner” families researched to date. This contains over 70,000 entries and is covered in more detail on Webtrees here ... as an online PHP database with the id Townsley Extended

Database 2 contains Town(e)ley and Strang(e)way(e)s families recorded in published family pedigrees - the Landed Gentry database. This second database has NO straight forward connections with Database 1. It was created in an attempt to trace possible links and the origins of the known Townsley (and Strangeway) families; but without success! This database contains over 200,000 entries and is available here ...

Then there are a couple of family trees with surnames that could just possibly be derived from Townsley ....

The final group are family trees for other surnames that are linked by marriages to my branch of the Townsley family. The ones covered so far are -

• Healey family connections in Bradford, Yorkshire; including links to the Delaney and Nolan families
• Parker family connections in Bradford, Yorkshire; including links to the Knighton / Jennison families from Eastwood, Nottinghamshire; as well Parkers in Bedingfield, Suffolk

• Shepherd family connections in Leeds, Yorkshire; tracing back to Liverpool and London
• Strangeway Family with a dedicated web site and links to the Landed Gentry database.
• Sutcliffe family connections in Leeds, Yorkshire; including links to Gledhill family
• Tattersfield family connections in Mirfield and Heckmondwike, Yorkshire; through the link to the Dawson family

... but there may be more one day ..
